Botox at Empire Medical Center
Botox and how can it help you.
The appearance of aging skin accompanied by wrinkles result from a combination of many factors over a lifetime. It is more than just cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage caused by free radicals. The vertical lines that appear between your brows – referred to as “the 11s” — result from your facial muscles being contracted. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest — remember your mother warning you “your face will get stuck that way!”? Botox helps reduce the look of aging and wrinkles by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the persistent lines to form between the brows.
You may feel that the moderate to severe glabellar lines — “Frown lines” between your brows — make you look tired or unapproachable. Perhaps you have “crow’s-feet” – the lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes — or “Forehead furrows” – the horizontal lines that form when you raise your eyebrows. Or, maybe you have other reasons for being curious about BOTOX at Empire Medical Center. Schedule an appointment or stop by our clinic to see how botox can help improve the way you look and feel!
What does Botox do?
As you age, wrinkles and furrows develop between your brows. These frown lines — 11s — can make your face look angry, tired, or sad-making you appear older than you are or than you feel. One of the main causes of frown lines is over-active muscles in your brow line. Botox reduces the activity of these muscles that cause wrinkles in the upper part of your face, effectively enhancing your appearance. Enhanced appearance, sense of self, vitality, and professional appearance can all be obtained through the use of Botox, which is proven to be safe and effective.
What is Botox?
The active ingredient in Botox is a naturally occurring protein onabotulinumtoxinA that relaxes over-tightened muscles. Botox injections relax the muscles that cause smile lines (crow’s feet), forehead lines (transverse worry lines), and frown lines (wrinkles between eyes).
Facial wrinkles are the long-term result of constant use of the upper facial muscles (frowning, smiling, raising eyebrows, quizzical expressions). The repeated muscle movements lead to dynamic wrinkles over time. Botox injections are an excellent treatment choice for reducing or eliminating these wrinkles.
Botox works by relaxing facial muscles, therefore improving the appearance of facial expression lines. Best results usually occur three to seven days after injection, and commonly last somewhere between three and four months. Thus, repeat injections are required to maintain optimal effects. The most common, but unlikely, side effects are redness and minor swelling at the injection site that resolves with time.
Why is Botox right for you?
Botox Cosmetic is a high performing wrinkle reducer with quick, visible results. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranked Botox Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row (surgical and non-surgical combined)! Botox allows people to look and feel younger without the risk or cost of traditional plastic surgery. Botox treatment is proven, safe and effective. At Empire Medical Center we offer a complimentary consultation for Botox® and Juvéderm®, so you’ve got nothing to lose, except your wrinkles and worry lines!
Botox and Depression:
We smile when we are happy, and we frown when we are sad. Botox injections into the forehead frown lines remove not only wrinkles but also some negative emotions.
What is the best aftercare for Botox injections?
For best practical purposes Botox injections are considered a lunchtime procedure, where our clients can return to normal activities immediately after the treatment. However, it is advisable for patients to avoid vigorous exercise, lying down for two to four hours after the treatment, sauna or bathtub as well as a hot shower. These activities may lead to blood congestion and bruising in injected areas and wash out the Botox before it has a chance to interact with the targeted muscles.
What conditions can be treated with Botox?
Despite the fact that cosmetic injections of Botox in any site other than the glabella and crow’s feet is considered an “off-label use” in the United States, the scope of Botox use is increasing every year. At Empire Medical Center, our providers use botox to correct the following problems:
